Bloated. Lethargic. Searching for a comfortable position nestled on top fluffy pillows. At a time when our uterus saps every ounce of energy to commence with its monthly cleansing, we seek solace and rest. What if I challenge you to proceed with your previously scheduled plans? Perhaps the respite you desperately need is at the end of a brisk walk or relaxing yoga session.
Since about the 1930s, physicians have encouraged women to exercise as an effective method to deal with pain associated with menses. Although multiple studies have attempted to prove causal relationship with physical activity and less pain and associated menstrual symptoms, a recent 2018 study published in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology revealed there is just not enough information from previous studies. The article did, however, conclude that women should use physical activity as a non-pharmaceutical means to improve their menstrual experience.
Next month, when the inevitable symptoms of menses seek to derail you from your fitness goals, try a different approach… Take that zumba class, ride your bike, or enjoy that scenic walk. Your body and your mind will thank you for it. That is the Zoezi way!
